Who is the fast for?

The fast is for all adults ages 18 and over. Youth in middle and high school will fast from social media for one day – Monday, January 8th.

What about prepared foods?

Read the labels of all prepared foods (canned fruits, vegetables, packaged foods) to be aware of what is in there.

What about pasta?

Make sure the label says whole wheat pasta.

How do I get enough protein in my diet while on the fast?

The following are some of the protein-rich foods that are allowed on the Consecration Fast: almonds, sunflower seeds, lentils, quinoa, brown rice, split peas, whole grains, tofu and soy products.

I know it says raw, unsalted nuts, but what about roasted nuts?

The goal would be to stick to raw, unsalted nuts. But these are harder to find so in a pinch just make sure you get plain roasted.

What kind of peanut butter is allowed?

Natural peanut butter.

What about salad dressing?

You may use any vinaigrettes or Italian dressing.

Do I need to eat organic foods while on the fast?

No.

Can I eat at restaurants?

Yes, however, be mindful – you are on the Consecration Fast.

What about bread?

You can eat whole wheat bread.

Can I eat popcorn?

Yes, without butter.

How much can I eat?

As long as they are the appropriate foods, we recommend eating until satisfied.

What about exercise?

Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise 3 times per week. The 30 minutes can be broken up – you don’t have to do it all at once.

How much water should I drink?

Try to drink at least five (5) 8 oz. glasses of water each day.
