God has given you a precious gift! To celebrate and come along beside you, we conduct four Baby Dedications each year following our 11:30 am services on Sunday.  If you wish to participate in a Baby Dedication, we ask that you preregister online or call the church main office at (703) 490-4040.  We also offer a special Parent Class to equip and empower parents to raise their children God’s way! The class is held at 10:00 am on the Saturday prior to the Baby Dedication Ceremony.

Parents, grandparents, godparents, siblings and other family and friends are welcome to witness these children being dedicated to the Lord and join in the prayer for God’s protection, favor and blessing on their lives.

WHAT IS A BABY DEDICATION CEREMONY?

Baby Dedication Ceremonies are a special time where parents (man and woman) dedicate their child (age birth to two years) to God with the support of family and friends.

Dedicating your child to God shows that you recognize your child as a gift from Him and that you are dedicating yourself to being a Godly example to the child, raising the child according to God’s Word and God’s ways. In the Old Testament, we see how Hannah prayed for a child and promised God that the child, Samuel, would be given to the Lord all the days of his life (1 Samuel 1:11, 28). In the New Testament, we see how Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple to “present” Him to the Lord (Luke 2:22).

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE BABY DEDICATION CEREMONY?

Your child will be called to the front of the church for the Baby Dedication and your child’s picture will be displayed on the screens. Next, the announcer will call up your family and friends who came to support you in this special occasion.  The Pastors will say a special dedication prayer for each child and ask for God’s protection, favor and blessing on their lives. In addition to praying for the children, the Pastors also pray for the parents and other family members.

After the prayer, our photographer will take a photo of the Pastors with your child and family. You are also welcome to take your own photos after that.

The parents will receive a Baby Dedication certificate to commemorate this blessed occasion.

AFTER THE BABY DEDICATION – SHARE THE JOY!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How old does my child need to be to take part in the dedication ceremony?

Harvest Life dedicates children from birth to two years old. If you have more than one child they can be dedicated at the same time.

What should my child wear on Baby Dedication day?

Christening attire is often a family heirloom with a significant history in the family, and it is fine for your child to wear it.  Otherwise, parents and children are welcome to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. The dedication will be held at the front of the church, so please choose appropriate attire.

Can a single parent participate in the dedication ceremony?

Yes! Child dedication signifies the commitment of parents (including single parents!) to do their best to raise the child in the ways of the Lord.
